Colombian gaming regulator Coljuegos has officially granted Betano, a brand operated by Kaizen Gaming Colombia, a license to launch its online betting platform. This authorization positions Betano as the 17th operator in Colombia's regulated online betting market, alongside established names like Betsson, Luckia, BetPlay, Bwin, and Stake.
Coljuegos President Marco Emilio Hincapié highlighted the significance of Betano's entry into the market, stating:
“We continue to strengthen the industry of games operated by the internet. With the entry of this new operator, we aim to increase transfers for the health of Colombians while providing more options to bettors.”
Hincapié also emphasized the sector's role in driving economic growth, noting that online betting contributes significantly to Colombia’s gross domestic product.
Coljuegos estimates that by the end of 2024, online betting platforms will collectively contribute P 419.5m ($95.5m), a 31% increase from the previous year. Betano alone is expected to pay P 21.5m over the next five years in operating rights and administrative fees. These funds are earmarked to support Colombia’s public health system, subsidize healthcare services, and finance scientific research, demonstrating the industry's importance beyond entertainment.
Betano’s approval reflects the rapid expansion of Colombia’s gaming sector. Beyond online operators, land-based gaming also continues to thrive. For example, Novomatic recently introduced its Fazi Mega Pay roulette machines at prominent venues like Gran Casino Buenavista and Zamba Plaza del Parque.
Regionally, Colombia's advancements align with neighboring Brazil's ongoing push toward iGaming regulation. Several operators, including Stake, Fazi, and Booming Games, have already secured pre-approval to enter Brazil’s market.
Betano’s arrival further solidifies Colombia’s position as a leading regulated iGaming market in Latin America. With robust regulatory oversight and a clear commitment to economic growth and public welfare, the country continues to attract major players in the global betting industry, ensuring a competitive and dynamic environment for bettors.
