North Star Network (NSN) has expanded its footprint in Africa with the acquisition of Soccernet.ng, a prominent Nigerian football blog. This strategic move marks a significant step in NSN’s efforts to enhance its presence in the Nigerian sports media landscape and across the continent as a whole.
Founded in 2014, Soccernet.ng has grown to become one of Nigeria’s leading football platforms, known for its daily updates, in-depth analysis, and high-quality journalism. The platform has built a substantial following both locally and internationally, with regular readers from over 150 countries, including the UK, US, Canada, and Spain. Soccernet.ng’s recognition includes winning the Sport Blog of the Year award at the Nigerian Blog Awards.
By adding Soccernet.ng to its portfolio, NSN expands its presence in Africa, joining a network of over 30 sports media brands, including Afrik-Foot, Top Mercato, Football Whispers, and Sportsmole. This acquisition further solidifies NSN's commitment to providing quality sports journalism in key global markets.
Despite the acquisition, Soccernet.ng's team will remain integral to the platform’s operations. Co-founder Lolade Adewuyi will continue contributing as a columnist, ensuring the editorial direction and voice of the platform remain intact.
Biyi Akangbe, Soccernet.ng’s founder, shared his excitement about the acquisition: "We started out as a small website with a passion to deliver news about Nigerian football. Since then, we've become a trusted source worldwide for Nigerian football news, which led to this acquisition by North Star."
Julien Josset, Co-founder of North Star Network, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership: "We’re excited to welcome Soccernet.ng into the North Star Network family. Their passion for Nigerian football and commitment to quality journalism align perfectly with our global vision of bringing fans closer to the sport they love."
This acquisition highlights North Star Network’s ongoing commitment to amplifying local voices in the sports media industry. With a growing presence across more than 30 countries, NSN aims to continue driving sustainable growth and enhancing its offerings in key global markets.
